A visit to the Écusson, Montpellier’s historic center, with its medieval streets and emblematic Place de la Comédie, is a must. Then head for Place de la Canourgue, overlooking St. Peter’s Cathedral and its monumental porch (opposite the apartment), Montpellier’s favorite square. Continue along rue Foch, for its view of the Arc de Triomphe, then on to Place Royale du Peyrou and the Saint-Clément aqueduct, with a breathtaking view of the Arceaux district. Before setting off again, take a break at Montpellier’s Jardin des Plantes, the oldest in France, once reserved for botanists from the Faculty of Medicine. And a word of advice: keep your eyes peeled and discover, through a half-open door, one of the marvellous courtyards of Montpellier’s finest private mansions.
